Mr. Scarlata has been employed as a police officer for over twenty (20) years with one of the largest metropolitan police departments in the Washington, D.C. area.

Shawn began his career as a patrol officer and after several years was re-assigned to a Community Oriented Policing unit.

In 1997 he became an investigator within the Narcotic Enforcement Division where he acted in an undercover role in countless numbers of cases.

During his fourteen (14) years assigned to the division Mr. Scarlata spent a majority of the time in the Major Narcotics Section and spent five years assigned to a Drug Enforcement Agency Task Force.  Shawn also spent three years as a narcotic detection canine handler.

In 2010, he was re-assigned to the department’s Executive Protection Unit and is currently assigned to the protection detail for the jurisdiction’s top executive.

Shawn Scarlata has taken dozens of classes and courses to further his law enforcement career.

Mr. Scarlata has been recognized as an expert in the field of narcotic investigations in both the United States District Court as well as local and state courts in Maryland.
